On February 19, 2015, McKemie Place was notified that its application to be a United Way of Southwest Alabama Partner was accepted. This is the first time since McKemie Place’s inception in March 2007 that the agency has been recognized as a UWSWA Partner.

Since becoming a Partner Agency, McKemie Place has applied for program funding from UWSWA to assist with Shelter operations, as well as funding from the State Combined Campaign and Federal Combined Campaign.

“Once we were notified of being accepted as a United Way of Southwest Alabama Partner Agency, we got to work on funding opportunities for McKemie Place. We feel this partnership will open many more doors for us at McKemie, and give us additional leverage for our future vision for the Shelter,” said McKemie Place Executive Director Jessica James.

The mission of the United Way of Southwest Alabama is to improve the quality of life in the community.
