McKemie Place is the only temporary emergency shelter for unaccompanied women 18 years old or older in our Region- serving Mobile, Baldwin, and Washington counties.

McKemie Place currently provides a place for up to 50 women to temporarily stay. Through the gracious assistance of dedicated volunteers, who prepare, bring and serve our meals, we are also able to provide three meals per day to each one our Guests. While some of our ladies are struggling to get back on their own two feet, some have jobs and go to work each day. But, all find comfort, friendship and spiritual support as they seek to rebound from the challenges life has thrown their way. The main goal of McKemie is to provide a safe place for homeless women to stay while encouraging them towards self sufficiency and helping them regain their independence.

1

A SAFE HAVEN

The safety of guests, staff, and volunteers is the top priority of McKemie Place. As such, everyone that comes through our doors is subject to camera surveillance, a metal detector, and may be asked to submit to a pat-down screening. Safety comes first!

2

SPIRITUAL ENCOURAGEMENT

Although McKemie Place is not a faith-based organization, we recognize the important role one's faith has in their ability to get back on their feet. We are sensitive to different religious faiths, denominations, and beliefs of the clients receiving our services. We do not discriminate in providing services to anyone based on their religion or beliefs. Our clients can voluntarily choose to participate in any services offered by the local faith based community.
